Hotel Casa Fuster was the first hotel I stayed in Barcelona during this New Year’s trip.
Considering the places to go at the beginning of my trip, I decided on this hotel located on Passeig de Gràcia.
First of all, Passeig de Gràcia is a slightly gentle slope overall.
It is located at the very end of the street at the top of the slope.
You can see the entire street from the hotel. You can go straight to Plaza Catalunya, and the walk is about 25 minutes long and about 1.7km long. This hotel
is a high-end house built in 1908 by the then-owner of the Fuster family as a gift for his wife, commissioned by Louis Domenech y Montaner, an architect of the time.
Luis Domenech y Montaner was a modernist architect before Gaudi who designed many buildings, including the Palau de la Musica Catalana.
There is a story going around on the internet that he is Gaudí’s teacher, but I don’t know that there is a relationship like that at all.Completed in 1911, this building became the most expensive house in Barcelona, which was home to many houses of the wealthy at the time of its completion, as it used the most expensive materials.
And the owner’s family stayed in the first and second floors of this building, but like the rich people of the time, the era of wealth was coming to an end and they could not afford the high costs, so they sold the mansion in 1920 and moved out.
Since then, Café Vienés (café spaces) have taken on many functions, including small businesses such as barbershops and grocery stores.
In 1962, ENHER Electric Company purchased the house with the intention of demolishing it and building a skyscraper, but the people of Barcelona were completely opposed, and thanks to numerous protests and newspaper articles, this plan was scrapped and ENHER remodeled the house and sold it.
Finally, it was purchased by Hoteles Center in 2000 and completely restored and remodeled into the current Hotel Casa Fuster.
And it has established itself as the older brother of Barcelona’s luxury hotels.
Due to this historical value, this hotel is recognized as having historical value as a building itself.
For these reasons, we chose this hotel as our first hotel in Barcelona.
This is the first thing you see when you arrive. It feels like Barcelona, right?
lolThis is what the lobby looks like when you enter the entrance.
It feels a bit small compared to the huge lobbies of large hotels, but it has a unique feeling of luxury and atmosphere. However, what is a bit disappointing is that there are only two reception desks, so it takes a while to check in and out, and the waiting time is long.
I think you need to take this into account. There is a taxi stop in front of the hotel, so it’s easy to take a taxi, and the hotel staff is always waiting to welcome you and help you carry your luggage.’
Café Vienés
‘
, which was converted into a hotel cafe after the hotel building was renovated,
is said to have been a famous place where major figures such as poet Salvador Esprio gathered.
It is said that such characteristics have been maintained to this day and it is famous as a gathering place for various local artists. There are large windows overlooking Passeig de Gràcia, providing a refreshing view. From Tuesday to Sunday, a pianist plays live music in the evenings at Café Vienés (except when times change during events or FC Barcelona matches). ).
The menu is also designed in an interesting way, so the children eagerly send in the menu. And the cafe’s cheese cake is the cake of life.
Must try
This cake comes from a restaurant run by a Michelin 3-star chef. There is another charm at night.
It has a more jazzy feel.
In particular, there are performances by famous artists every Thursday night from 9 to 11 p.m.
You even have to reserve a seat for the performance, so if you have time, it would be a good idea to experience it.There is also a bar and swimming pool on the rooftop.
It was winter when we went, so it was desolate.
Still, it seems like a place worth visiting in the summer. The summer hotel rooftop swimming pool is said to be really worth seeing.summerBut I think the night view is prettier in winter. We used the family room.
Since we are a family of four, we need two bathrooms, so we almost always use a two-bedroom or two-bathroom family room.
However, when using a family room, you have to give up the view toward Passeig de Gràcia, which is one of the best features of this hotel.
So, in some cases, even if you are a family, I recommend using two rooms with a view on the Gracia side rather than a family room. The room is very simple compared to its reputation and cost. However, hotel bedding is also very important to us.
It was very comfortable and I was able to sleep well.
(Maybe it was because I was tired from the trip…)
The comfort and cleanliness of the bedding and mattress were just right.Amenities include a full pouch bag including a shaving kit and Chopard shower supplies.
My children have sensitive skin and are sensitive to shower products, but they were able to use it without any problems and there were no problems.
The full pouch bag can be useful for a long time.We also consider the availability of baby robes to be very important.
It was nice that this hotel provided separate robes for children. My family stayed here for a few days.
However, there are actually some drawbacks, but I think that’s a matter of taste.
I think it can be recommended if the historical space and cool view (limited to Passeig de Gràcia) and the area for tourism are Casa Mila and Casa Bayott.
Also, the end of Passeig de Gràcia, where this hotel is located, is more crowded with locals than tourists, so I think you can make a recommendation based on your taste in that regard as well.
However, there is a question as to whether it is right for the price.
Even though it is a hotel that is so faithful to its concept that it is included in luxury hotel books and magazines, the room conditions clearly do not suit the taste of us Asians (at best, it is antique, but at worst, it is just old). Also, the auxiliary facilities are outside the hotel rather than inside, so it is not suitable for the season. It has a big impact.
I think it would be a good idea to consider this carefully when deciding on accommodation.
